Noah Movie directed by Darren Aronofsky

Noah MovieDirector Darren Aronofsky (who brought us The Wrestler and Black Swan) is working on Noah, an upcoming drama movie inspired by the epic biblical story of the antediluvian patriarch and the ark he built to save his family and representatives of all animals from the mythical flood. Actor Russell Crowe got the lead role as Noah and Actress Jennifer Connelly will play Noah's wife, Naameh.

A few words from Director Darren Aronofsky about why he was drawn to this project:

"It's the end of the world and it's the second most famous ship after the Titanic. I think it’s really timely because it's about environmental apocalypse which is the biggest theme, for me, right now for what's going on on this planet. So I think it's got these big, big themes that connect with us. Noah was the first environmentalist. He's a really interesting character.
[...]
Since I was a kid, I have been moved and inspired by the story of Noah and his family’s journey. The imaginations of countless generations have sparked to this epic story of faith. It’s my hope that I can present a window into Noah’s passion and perseverance for the silver screen"
Director Darren Aronofsky

Prior to the film he worked on a graphic novel to better sell the project to the studios:
